Following Jesus-Easy or Difficult Thing to Do?

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30.
Many people are hesitant to surrender to Christ because they consider following Jesus a difficult thing to do. This thought of theirs is understandable when you see some believing Christians who think so and make it look so too.
Jesus said that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Easy said than done, I can imagine some people saying in their minds. But Jesus says what He means and means what He says. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (KJV)
Following Jesus is an easy thing to do if you totally surrender to Him and truly make Him the Lord of your life. Like Jesus Christ said, learn of Him and you shall find rest for your soul. The challenge is that we still believe the wrong teachings and want to do things our own way.
When you really get to know Jesus not just as your saviour but as your Lord and friend, you will discover that Jesus yoke is easy indeed. Jesus never asks His own to do what is impossible or difficult to be done. If it is beyond you, He will always make a way of escape for you- (1 Corinthians 10:13).
When Jesus is your Lord, you do as He says. He calls the shots in your life and yours is to obey. Believing Christians are like soldiers who do nothing but obey the last command. Soldiers allow their superiors to do all the thinking while they carry out the orders. They don’t entangle themselves with the affairs of this life; that they may please him who had chosen them to be soldiers (2 Timothy 2:4)
Another challenge people have in following Jesus is that they can’t trust Him enough with their lives. They can’t trust Him to guide and direct the affairs of their lives. They have some areas of their lives where they want absolute control of. But God says in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (KJV)
The difficult thing to do really to some people when it comes to following Jesus is to sit at His feet and learn of Him. They can’t make out time to study the word of God (Bible) and pray. The closer your relationship with God, the easier it becomes to follow Jesus. They that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits, (Daniel 11:32)
Jesus yoke is easy because He not only will teach you what to do; He will help you to accomplish it. He will be with you all the way. He says He will never leave you nor forsake you, (Hebrews 13:5). Only totally surrender to Jesus and obey His word.
When you learn to obey God, the Holy Spirit will always lead you by God’s word every step of the way. You only have to listen for His instructions. This makes following Jesus an easy thing to do. For you will always hear a word behind you saying this is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left (Isaiah 30:21)
Many people are still in bondage because they have allowed the enemy to talk them into thinking that following Jesus is a difficult thing to do. Jesus loves you and desires to reveal Himself to you. Commit your life to Him, trust Him and you will see that Jesus yoke is easy indeed.
